Man prefers jail over marrying sex victim

A Yemeni man who had sex with a 17-year-old Saudi school girl was given a choice by the police to marry the girl or go to jail. He opted for jail.

The girl had reported the man to the Gulf Kingdom’s feared religious police after he rejected her request to correct his mistake and marry her.

The girl from the western town of Makkah said she had accepted the man’s offer to go to his place after he said he loves her and promised to marry her.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice arrested the unnamed Yemeni after closing his shop and fleeing the area.

“He was then asked to marry the girl to avert going to prison…the big surprise was that he asked to be sent to prison,” Sabq daily said.
