Newly-wed divorced for being a smoker

A Saudi man who just wedded his fiancé divorced her the next day after he learned she was a smoker, a local newspaper reported on Monday.

The unidentified man from the western Red Sea port of Jeddah agreed to marry his fiancé and set a date for the wedding ceremony, Sahafaonline said.

But he decided to end the marriage contract the next day when he was told his wife is a heavy smoker although he himself is a smoker.

“He discovered that she is a smoker so he decided to quickly end the marriage contract,” said Abdullah Surouji, head of the Jeddah Anti-smoking Society.

“He told me that he would not accept a smoking wife although he is a smoker…he is now a regular visitor to the Society as he wishes to quit.”
