Latest: An impatient passenger who opened the emergency exit on a plane to get some fresh air, has landed the airline in deep trouble after not only causing a two-hour delay but also costing the carrier $16,000, reports Daily Mail.

The first-time flier was arrested after his bid to 'get off quicker' after the chartered flight from Bangkok to Nanjing landed at Sanya Fenghaung International Airport in Hainan, reports Daily Mail.

The man claimed he had not followed the flight instructions and was not aware that one could not use the emergency exit to disembark from the aircraft. He allegedly used the emergency door to get off the plane quickly.

A first-time airline passenger opened the emergency exit to get some fresh air just as the plane was about to take-off.

Amazed fellow passengers got busy clicking pictures onboard the Xiamen Air flight from Hangzhou to Chengdu, reported scmp.com.

Maintenance crew rushed in immediately and fixed the safety door and the flight took off on time.

The report quoted the passenger telling cabin crew later that he “just wanted some fresh air… and hope the flight won’t be delayed for too long”.

Social media users went berserk with many commenting that he should have been penalized for the act as he risked safety of passengers.

However, the airline staff said that he was a “first-time passenger” and that “he did not cause delay or any other direct loss to the airline”.
