Plane skids off runway in Bulgaria
Two passengers were injured when their plane skidded off the runway while landing at Bulgaria's Black Sea airport of Varna on Friday morning, aviation and hospital officials said.
"One of our planes rolled slightly off the runway at landing. A Bulgarian woman was hospitalised with an injury, reportedly a broken leg, the rest of the people are alright," a representative for private charter airline Air Via, who operated the aircraft, told AFP by telephone from Varna.
Hospital officials later said that a second passenger, an 81-year-old German woman, was also hospitalised with a broken ankle.
Officials said they believed the Airbus 320, which was arriving from the German city of Leipzig with 172 passengers on board, had skidded due to bad weather conditions, but were still investigating.
Varna airport was closed following the incident and was to remain shut due to the bad weather, airport officials said.
