India may be reeling with the onslaught of monsoon, but in the temple town of Vrindavan, it rained currency on Saturday.

People ran helter-skelter to pick up notes that was being showered upon them by a monkey, who ran amok with three bundles of Rs500 notes, reported ‘ToI’.

The simian had snatched the bag from a 50-year-old devotee from Mumbai, who was visiting the temple with her family. She tried her best chasing the animal, but in vain. People around advised her to distract the monkey by offering it some food to eat. But as it was late noon, there were no stalls selling food, either.

While beggars and kids made away with the falling notes, others collected as many notes as they could and handed it to the woman.

The family’s misfortune didn’t stop there. As the woman’s daughter stooped to collect the notes, someone made off with the mobile phone that was sticking out from her trouser pocket.

In fact, the narrow lanes near Banke Bihari are notorious for monkey menace. Recently, one other woman was lucky enough is retrieving her back after she distracted the monkey with some sweets.

And earlier there was also an incident of an elderly man falling to is death after being chased by monkeys.
