Woman feeds 6-day-old baby to crocodiles

Colombo - A High Court Judge in Sri Lanka has sentenced to a woman for attempting to kill her 6-day-old baby by trying to feed the child to crocodiles.

The lady was sentenced to 3 years rigorous imprisonment, Sri Lanka’s ‘Mawbima’ has reported.

The Giribawa Police filed a case against the accused alleging the woman left the baby by the Nikawewa Lake, frequented by crocodiles.

The police rescued the infant after a person witnessed the screaming infant in a shrub near the lake.

Police said that the baby had been born to the woman out of an extramarital affair and her husband was working abroad.

Judge also ordered the woman to pay a compensation of SLR200,000 to the child, who is being looked after at Ashoka Children’s Home in Anuradhapura.

Mom sells 15-year-old to brothel partner

The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) is investigating a case of a  teenager who was sold to a man by her mother in Colombo.

According to a report in ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’, the 15-year-old was sold to a VIP, whose identity is not revealed.

Meanwhile, according to the girl, her mother and the man had been running a brothel in a rented house in Malabe under the name of a fishing centre and have been forcing several children into prostitution.

The incident came to light, when the teenager revealed her ordeal to her grandmother, and the police were informed. She said that the couple has been arrested.

The girl was forced into prostitution in 2012.

Her father in unknown.
