Girl, 18, who has not eaten since 2009

BRITAIN: An 18-year-old girl has not eaten since 2009. She is fed nutrients through a drip that is connected straight to her heart.

The teenager suffers from a connective tissue disorder that affects about one in every 5,000 people in the UK.

The girl's mother feeds her vital nutrients through a tube going directly to her heart. Any slight mistake can turn fatal for the teenager, reports Daily Mail.

The teenager's life went topsy-turvy when she was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Hypermobility Type III (EDS), a disease that has affected her internal organs, nerves and muscles and the way they work. She suffers from excruciating pain and is mostly confined to a wheelchair.

She has remained positive in the face of terrible outcome of her disease. She siffers from complex intestinal failure, has had her large bowel removed and a permanent stoma bag fitted, her small intestine has stopped working, her stomach doesn't function and her bladder has failed, says the daily.

She gets weird cravings and misses eating chocolates and pasta. However, living with the extreme pain is more of a challenge than not eating.

Man bitten by crocodile during toilet break

KUALA LUMPUR: A construction worker was bitten by a crocodile during a toilet break in a river in Malaysian Borneo, but fought off the huge reptile and escaped with his life.

Pai punched the two-metre crocodile in the eye after it bit him just above his right buttock, and despite being in incredible pain and soaked in blood managed to summon help, reports said Saturday.

The attack happened early Friday, when the 32-year-old decided to take his chances in the river in Sarawak state despite knowing it was infested with crocodiles.

The labourer, an Indonesian who works at a nearby construction site, had just finished relieving himself under a bridge when the animal bit him from behind.

"Fortune favoured me when the crocodile let go after I punched it in the eye," he was quoted by Malay tabloid Harian Metro as saying.

"After being freed from the jaws of the crocodile, I found extraordinary strength to run and call for help even though my waist was extremely painful."

Several newspapers ran pictures of Pai, who like many Indonesians goes by one name, lying on his stomach at the Sarawak General Hospital with bandages on his waist and hip area.

According to The Star newspaper, he also suffered puncture wounds on the left side of his ribs.

Crocodile attacks have been a constant problem in Malaysia, with several deaths reported in the past few years.

The Star reported that a 14-year-old boy was still recovering at the same hospital after a crocodile attack on Wednesday.

Two years ago, a Malaysian businessman settled out of court for 43,000 ringgit (S$17,350) after he was bitten by a crocodile while playing golf at a resort near the historic port town of Malacca just south of Kuala Lumpur.

Man burns alive sister, niece; commits suicide

INDIA: A 29-year-old woman who was involved in an extra-marital affair was burnt to death by her 35-year-old brother. The man also killed his five-year-old niece the same way before setting himself on fire.

The police officials have not ruled out a suicide pact, reports The Times of India.

The brother-sister duo often fought over the woman's affairs as the brother threatened her with dire consequences if she did not correct her behaviour.

One afternoon, while the sister and the neice were inside a room, the brother took a can of kerosene and liberally poured it outside the room and set it on fire. The mother and daughter could be heard screaming from inside and they perished as no one could get in to help them out.

Meanwhile, the brother poured kerosene on himself and set himself ablaze. He too died on the spot, the newspaper said.

The woman was living with her brother as she was separated from her husband.

Plane crash lands, strikes two cars

CALIFORNIA: Authorities say a small plane crash-landed in a business district in Southern California's San Fernando Valley, striking two cars and injuring the two people on board.

Nobody on the ground was hurt.

Los Angeles Police Officer Norma Eisenman says the plane went down just before noon Saturday in the Pacoima area, not far from Whiteman Airport.

Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott says one person on board was seriously hurt and the other suffered moderate injuries.

Scott says the plane went down between two buildings in a business district. Two vehicles and an awning on one building were damaged.

There was no fire, but fuel leaked from the crashed plane.

Investigators weren't immediately sure whether the plane had originated at Whiteman Airport. (AP)
