Woman robs three banks to pay rent

Culprit caught after teller recognises her

A Bridgewater woman police say robbed three banks in two days to pay the rent has a date in court.

Kerri Ann Heffernan is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court on charges including armed and masked robbery with a firearm, armed assault to rob, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

The 31-year-old Heffernan was arrested Sunday based on evidence including surveillance video and an eyewitness account in one bank she allegedly robbed by a teller who recognized her.

The Enterprise reports that Heffernan told police she needed money because she owed her landlord $1,950 in rent.

The banks she allegedly robbed were inside grocery stores in Whitman and Brockton. In one robbery she claimed to have a knife and in another she claimed to have a gun.
