A woman avoided jail after staging a burglary in her home in Russia to avoid telling her husband that she had spent their life savings.

The 65-year-old woman, from Nizhny Tagil in Russia, was given a sixth-month suspended sentence for faking the crime in which she staged to avoid telling her husband that she had spent £2,230.

According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, the lady's neighbours had called the police after they heard suspicious noises coming from their home and the emergency services arrived shortly after.

The woman told the police that she had been robbed by two men, who were dressed up as postmen, tied her up with duct tape, trashed her home and then left with the money.

When police grew suspicious, they questioned the woman, who soon admitted to faking the claims.

She reportedly avoided a five-year sentence for wasting police time after a judge felt sorry for her.
