A Yemeni man and his wife agreed to split two months after they married because of differences in their political views, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Saleh Hameed, 30, said he agreed with his 20-year-old wife to get divorced after they found they can no longer live together due to differing views towards the political situation in the Arab world.

Hameed, a clothes dealer in Saudi Arabia, said he went to Yemen and got married two months ago but discovered later that his wife supports some Arab political leaders whom he does favour, according to the Kuwaiti daily Al Rai.

“We agreed on a divorce after we found that we can no longer live with our serious political differences,” he told the paper.

Al Rai quoted Hameed as saying his wife hates Syrian president Bashar Al Assad and Egyptian army chief and defence minister General Abdul Fattah Al Sisi and supports ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Mursi. “On the other side, Hameed likes Assad and Sisi…he even likens Sisi to late Egyptian president Jamal Abdul Nassir.”
