Frog served alive at gourmet restaurant

Published

A live frog was served in a gourmet restaurant to a customer in Japan. Citizen journalism site Stomp claims that it received an online video in which a live frog "is stabbed alive, stripped clean of its skin, and its inedible innards removed to be served as fresh 'sashimi' on an iced platter".

Apparently, the client had placed an order for the gourmet dish, which was prepared in the customer's presence, reports the website.

In the video clip, the report says, the frog was still blinking its eyes and twitching when it was served to the customer.

The sashimi bits were taken off the animal and the rest of it used for a soup.

According to Stomp, the frogs used in this dish are bullfrogs raised specifically for cooking and are, therefore, safe to consume.

A Stomp reader said that it was 'an extreme act of cruelty to animals'. The video clip received severe criticism from those who viewed it.
