India's next XI: Mum delivers 11 kids at one go?

11 kids born on 11/11/11 claims hospital

Internet forums were abuzz with the amazing feat of a woman giving birth to 11 children -- all at one go. The story was fuelled by this picture circulated on Indian blogs and with the said headline.

Blogs ran the picture stating that: hospital staff showing 11 babies born on unique date 11/11/11 in Surat. It was also rumored that 6 were twins. Doctors were really surprised, shocked and glad to have successful delivery.

No official news agency has been able to deny or confirm the news, but with calls for the Guiness Book of World Records to authenticate the births, unofficial 'sources' have offered more viable explanations.

The most plausible one doing the rounds of forums is that all the 11 babies are not from a single mother.

Though all the babies were born on 11/11/11 and hence 11 of them lined up for the picture, they all have different mothers.

One blog did take the trouble to suggest that given the current performance of India's cricket team, maybe this Surat hospital was already getting a new eleven ready.

Baby born on pavement in -4C

A 25-year-old woman in the UK gave birth to her son on a hospital pavement at -4C in the early hours of Sunday.

Lisa McNeil helped herself after desperate attempts at pressing the buzzer failed to alert nurses at the maternity ward of Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife. Her mother held out a cardigan and wrapped the infant before he could hit his head on concrete, reported 'Mail Online'.

Lisa said the experience was "like a horror movie. I was in a lot of pain and bleeding. It was surreal...I don’t think anyone should be put through the humiliation of having to give birth on a pavement outside a hospital in front of strangers."

Her mother said: "It is scandalous and must never, ever happen again. I kept my hand on that buzzer for six minutes and shouted and screamed..."

Meanwhile, hospital authorities claim the call system used by the family was that of the assessment department and not the delivery suite. And that nurses were at "their help within two minutes of her arrival at the door".

However, phone and video evidence shows at least three minutes and 49 seconds between the first buzzer being pressed and help arriving, according to the report in 'Mail Online'.

But Lisa has no compplaints and did not blame the nurses for what happened. "It is not their fault that the buzzer is in the wrong place and they can’t hear it. Nurses were fantastic and apologitic..."

The baby weighed who weighed 8lb and 14oz at birth and the new mom are doing fine.

Actually, there are 13 babies in all from 9 different moms. 9 singletons and 2 twins. They were conceived in a test tube baby clinic by IVF and delivered by selected c-section. The record is for the date they were delivered 11.11.11 and the fact that they are the largest one-try test tube babies successfully implanted and brought to term and delivered.
