Man stealing woman's ashes and threatening to snort them

A US man is in jail today on grand theft charges after allegedly stealing a dead woman's ashes and telling her mother he was going to snort them.

Joseph W. Pointer, 51, from Florida, was arrested last Thursday local time on suspicion of stealing the ashes of Melissa Williamson, who died in 2008, WTVJ-TV reported.

He briefly lived with Williamson's sister, Angela Speakman, in April, according to an arrest report. Speakman shared ownership of the ashes with her parents, according to WTVJ.

A day before he was arrested, Mr Pointer allegedly drove past the home of Williamson's mother in Lakeland, Florida, and yelled, "I've got your dead daughter's ashes and I'm going to snort them," the report said.

He was booked into Polk County Jail and ordered held on $1000 bond, WTVJ reported. It was not known if Mr Pointer had an attorney.
