Residents in a UK county were left puzzled when a torrent of blue jelly-like balls rained from the sky during a hailstorm.
The BBC reports that Steve Hornsby of Dorset spotted about a dozen balls in his garden after the storm and scooped them into a jar out of curiosity.
"They're difficult to pick up, I had to get a spoon and flick them into a jam jar,” Hornsby told the broadcaster.
The former aircraft engineer described the balls as having an exterior shell with a “softer inner but no smell".
Hornsby said he was keeping the balls in his fridge while trying to find out what they were.
The Met Office confirmed the substance was "not meteorological" and a research assistant at Bournemouth University speculated that they might be "marine invertebrate eggs".
