A six-month-old baby boy died after he was initially misdiagnosed by doctors at a hospital in Australia and later forced to wait for an ambulance ‘because medics needed to have lunch’.

The incident, which has now garnered attention on social media, happened in 2013. The infant was treated for gastroenteritis for about 20 hours before it was discovered that he was actually suffering from bowel obstruction, reported a website.

Recalling the incident, his parents say once the actual diagnosis was made, the doctors asked them to shift the infant to Sydney Children’s Hospital for specialist surgery.

They say that the first ambulance sent to pick up the infant was called off because the crew needed lunch break. The second ambulance had a patient inside and the crew allegedly said that they needed to eat before driving for two hours to Sydney.

Finally, when the ambulance left with the infant, it had to be diverted because the baby wasn’t breathing properly. It was four hours before the little one reached the hospital for surgery.

Kyran Day was then operated upon and put on life support. But he died because his brain was starved of oxygen.

Three years on, his parents continue fighting for his legacy.
