A newborn baby girl in Hong Kong was found to be ‘pregnant’ with twins and had to undergo surgery at just three weeks old to remove them.

It is a condition known as foetus in fetu that occurs in just one in 500,000 births in the world.

The foetuses, weighing 14.2 and 9.3 grams, had gestated 8 to 10 weeks, had legs, arms, a spine, rib cage and intestines, too, reported ‘Metro’.

Each also had an umbilical cord, the report added.

The baby has been discharged from hospital and is doing fine after the surgery.

Medics are yet to determine how the condition is caused.

However, Hong Kong Medical Journal, which reported the birth, suggested it was possibly linked to the mother having multiple abortions.
