Dh5 tip costs RAK barber Dh5,000 fine

Ras Al Khaimah authorities fined a barber Dh5,000 for making customer pay an extra Dhfive for a shave after telling it was a tip paid in all other barber shops.

Hashim Al Rifai, a 22-year-old Emirati, has just had a shave at the hair cutting saloon in the northern city and paid him Dh10 when the barber asked for Dhfive more.

“When he asked him about this additional sum, the barber told him it is a tip which is paid in all other salons in the emirate,” Al Khaleej daily said.

It said Rifai reported the saloon to the Economy ministry, which sent its inspectors to the shop and fined its owner Dh5,000 for violating rules related to defined fees.
