Family has a baby girl after 100 years

Published

A British family is celebrating the birth of a girl child after more than 100 years. For four generations, the Silverton family has had only boys, reported abcnews.com

Little Poppy was born on September 9, 2014 to Danielle and her partner Jeremy Silverton at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The last female born into the family was Poppy’s great aunt in 1913. Since then the family has had 16 boys, including the couple’s eldest two boys, aged 6 and 4.

The baby’s grandfather said, “It was always boys, boys, boys…and he assumed it was going to be the same way.”

The infant’s father, who is a farmer and a lecturer on agriculture, said the couple “didn’t do anything different to get a girl”.

They never did any research for a baby girl…“It’s like tossing a coin, it just happened,” he added.

The baby’s mother said when she heard the sex of the baby while on a routine scan, she thought that “maybe they had made a mistake”, but nevertheless went ahead and painted the nursery pink.
