A Saudi groom cancelled his marriage, considering it ill-omen after a series of accidents involving camels he wanted to give his bride as dowry.

‘Sada’ newspaper said the unnamed groom was asked by the bride’s father to give a dowry of three male and three female camels, a request which he quickly accepted.

The six camels he bought from a dealer were transported by a truck to the bride’s father when the vehicle was involved in an accident, which caused their death.

He bought six other camels, some of which were injured in another accident on the way to the bride’s family, the paper said.

“He had no choice but to buy six other camels, which arrived safely this time…when he was told to come and take his bride, the groom fell ill suddenly,” it said.

“He then called the bride’s father and told him that he was cancelling the marriage, considering what happened to him and the camels as an ill-omen,” the paper added without mentioning where in Saudi Arabia the incident took place.
