Smart thieves continue to operate freely in various parts of Sharjah. The latest theft cases are reported from a computer shop in Rolla and stealing of vehicles parked in Al Nahda area for long periods using recovery vehicles.

Ten laptops from Al Madani Computer Shop located in the Circle Building near Arab Uduppi Restaurant in Rolla have been stolen, after a thief broke open the glass windows of an adjacent tailoring shop. The same shop was looted last March when 12 laptops were stolen.

“They smashed the computer shop's glass doors by throwing big stones. They stole 10 laptops, eight of which were brand new ones worth Dh10,000. They did not steal anything from the tailoring and embroidery shop, which had only clothes in the stock,” said an employee of Al Madani Computers.

“A few months ago, the shop was broken into after smashing the front glass door and thieves took away 12 laptop computers. We increased security by erecting an iron grill in front of the shop, but this time the thief entered the shop from the adjacent tailoring shop, after breaking its window glasses,” he said.

The laptop thief was caught in the closed circuit television records of the adjacent tailoring shop. “We have installed the security camera only two weeks ago, but this young guy trying to steal is caught on our camera,” said staff from Al Hulm Tailoring.

“An Asian looking man wearing pants and shirt is seen coming in front of the shop at 2am on Monday and is seen smashing the glass window of the tailoring shop. We have handed over the details to Sharjah Police,” said staff of Al Madina Computers. "He collected all the laptops one by one and used a plastic bag from the tailoring shop." Sharjah Police is investigating the case.

Sharjah police is also looking for thieves who have towed away vehicles in recovery vans from the Al Nahda area. “I used to park my Toyota pickup van in an area away from my shop and used to check it every night. One day the vehicle was missing and when I checked with the closed circuit television in the area, I could see a group of people towing it away on a recovery vehicle,” said the vehicle owner, Manaf who is running City Vision Technical.

His vehicle was not used for some time. The video footage was also caught a group of people who came to the spot on a recovery vehicle at about 10pm to watch the location and then two more people joined them. He has handed over the video footage to Sharjah Police, which is looking for the culprits.

Another car from the area has also been reported missing. Emirates 24|7 earlier reported daylight robbery from a computer shop in the neighboring Ajman and growing theft cases from various groceries and shopping centers in the emirates.
