A Yemeni farmer stumbled across a treasure dating back to the Himyarite Kingdom more than 2,000 years ago just next to his doorstep, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

The farmer was digging his garden when the plough hit decayed pottery buried underground near his house in the southwestern town of Dalei.

The Arabic language daily Al Khabar said the farmer was shocked when he opened the pottery and found a large amount of gold and silver coins.

It said the farmer was told by experts the coins date back to the Hmiyarite Kingdom that ruled Ancient Yemen for centuries from 110 BC.
