Arsene Wenger stormed into the transfer market by making a double swoop ahead of Wednesday’s deadline.

‘The Sun’ reported that the embattled Arsenal manager had a £6.2 million bid accepted for Brazilian left-back Andre Santos.

Santos, 28, has played for Brazil on 22 occasions and joined Fener from Corinthians in 2009.

Then he lined up an £8 million move for Chelsea’s French midfielder Florent Malouda.

Wenger is desperate to strengthen his squad after Sunday’s humiliating 8-2 defeat at Manchester United.

He has also offered £7m for Chelsea's Brazilian centre-back Alex and is keen on his midfield team-mate Yossi Benayoun.

And with the transfer window closing on Wednesday night, he has not given up on Bolton defender Gary Cahill.

The deal has been agreed with Turkish side Fenerbahce for Santos, 28, and will be completed subject to a medical.

Alex has proved his pedigree in England while 25-year-old Cahill - rated at £16m by Bolton - is a top Premier League defender.

Malouda, 31, also has years of experience in the top flight.

Chelsea want £10m for Alex, 29, but the Arsenal board believe they can land their man for less.

QPR have joined Blackburn and Norwich in the race to sign Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury.
