Arsenal’s main transfer: Will Redknapp send Wenger out?

Arsenal fans are furious with Andre Santos.

Not because for over half the game he was left eating the dust from Antonio Valencia’s heels in Arsenal’s 2-1 away loss to Manchester United, but because he asked for Robin van Persie’s shirt at half-time.

In many ways it’s symptomatic about what is wrong with Arsenal Football Club.

The club is destined to be a feeder club to the top four or five clubs of Europe and to spend life struggling to make the top four of the Premier League.

Ironically, manager Arsene Wenger himself seems content and justified to life as a has-been for the Gooners. In terms of winning trophies, that is. The only terms that should matter for a football manager.

Consider his comments in the run-up to the United clash.

He spoke of Robin Van Persie, an Arsenal captain that chose to leave and join United, in the kind of terms a coach speaks of a player he created for great things.

Great things yes, but at whose expense.

Arsenal found out the truth to that the hard way as Van Persie scored within minutes of the kick-off.

More damning than that, are Wenger’s comments at the pre-match press conference.

Counting off what he believes to be a tough run of games for Arsenal, Wenger included Stoke away on that list.

Given that playing down at the Potteries on a rainy night with the likes of Ryan Shawcross and Peter Crouch is hardly a fairground ride. But, Stoke away is fixture any title winning side would count as a win tie.

RVP put United ahead inside three minutes — his 10th goal since a £22million summer switch from Arsenal.

Van Persie refused to celebrate his goal.

He said: “I played at Arsenal for eight years and had a fantastic time. It was out of respect for the fans, players, manager and the whole club.”

Patrice Evra added a second before Santi Cazorla’s late strike for the Gunners.

And fans, instead of being incensed that Wenger is selling players that Arsenal need, took to Twitter to rant on about Santos, signed for £5.6million from Fenerbahce last season.

The question has been raised before, perhaps it is time to raise it again.

Come January in the transfer window, should Wenger be the man to go?

If yes, who should replace him?

Writing in his column in The Sun former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp stated that Arsenal are streets behind United, who are now title favourites.

Could Redknapp be opening his pitch to the Emirates faithful?

Time to dust off the 'In Wenger we trust' banners.
