Arsenal received a massive boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Manchester United with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny returning to training, it has been reported.

Szczesny has been out of action for six weeks having suffered an ankle injury following the 6-1 win over Southampton in Setpember.

The Gunners travel to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon hoping to build a difficult week which ended with a win over QPR.

The Pole's place in the side has been filled, unconvincingly, by Italian Vito Mannone, while the club's No 2, Lukasz Fabianski, is out for three months with ligament damage.

Szczesny has had a mixed season so far, appearing just twice, one of which featured the howler which led to Southampton's consolation in the Emirates Stadium thrashing.

He has been in a protective boot through October, but took part in training on Monday morning, according to the Daily Mail.
