Arsenal’s Walcott at Man Utd in Van Persie link-up

Call him a late bloomer, a late starter, a speedster without a footballing brain, the fastest slow learner in the Premier League, the diamond in the rough of English football, or just Theo Walcott – Arsenal seem determined to let him go.

No amount of inventive play off the bench, goal scoring or pleading seems to be working for the speedy winger who believes he can be Arsenal’s next Robin Van Persie.

Instead, Arsene Wenger seems to be happy to let him come off the bench as an impact sub, as he did against West Ham in the 3-1 win.

So, where will Walcott go?

He may nor may not be the next Van Persie, but he will have the chance to play with his former Dutch team-mate at Manchester United.

Also, with Wayne Rooney now slotting in to the midfield hole behind the strikers, Walcott may actually get his chance to play in a direct attacking role – as Danny Welbeck did against Newcastle... or did not do.

The presence of Nani at United is far from a settled one and January is all but likely to see the Portuguese winger leave.

Sir Alex Ferguson, despite his new-found diamond formation, will not want to operate without his out-and out wingers as attacking options.

Also, Ferguson may be the one to bring out the rest of the best in Walcott – given what he has gotten out of Van Persie.

Walcott will also want to look at moving to a team that is most likely to win the league or in Europe.

Manchester United, apart from Chelsea, seems most likely to do that.
