Reports emanating from France suggested that striker Loic Remy will sign for Chelsea before the deadline.
Chelsea have long been looking to keep their ‘Drogba’ replacement search going and Roberto Di Matteo seems to now believe that Marseille's Remy is the man to fill in Drogba’s shoes.
Tottenham were linked to Remy, but despite chairman Daniel Levy going to the south of France to try and wrap up a deal for the 25-year-old, Chelsea now seem in pole position.
Initially Arsenal also showed an interest.
With Remy at Chelsea that makes a Daniel Sturridge exit an almost certainty, with the England international now guaranteed to be a bench player if he stays.
