Latest Man Utd transfer news: Chelsea alert for Rooney over Van Gaal fears

The next ‘permanent’ Manchester United manager may have to deal with a tough situation even before he gets the job.

Give the extent to which these footballing dramas are played out in the press and on social media, Wayne Rooney might need some pacifying.

Whether it is Ryan Gigss or Louis Van Gaal that do it, one will have to wait and see.

However, what is emerging is that a section of Old Trafford are uncomfortable with Van Gaal as the next manager.

Let us call that section the ‘Sir Alex Ferguson stand’.

It began with Fergie calling for Giggs to be installed permanently.

Then Wayne Rooney jumped in and backed the call .

All this is against every day media reports almost making Dutchman Van Gaal a done deal at United, with latest reports indicating that the deal may be inked even before the World Cup.

The Daily Mail
has reported today that Van Gaal very close relationship with Robin van Persie is of concern to Rooney, who fears he may lose his status as ‘No 1’ striker which he enjoyed under the erstwhile David Moyes and now, under Giggs as well.

This opens the door for a move for Rooney to Chelsea – much touted and at one stage almost seriously considered last season.

Jose Mourinho has made no secret that he wants Rooney and given the Blues’ striker problems, which have probably cost them the Premier League title, Rooney would be the perfect answer.

A new manager at United may also want to start afresh and might need some cash to do it. Cash which a Rooney sale could generate. Cash to close a deal with, say, Edinson Cavani?
