Brendan Rodgers has been better at shutting down rumours than he has at opposing defences.

Despite the Liverpool manager’s clear statement that the Reds have no intention of selling Luis Suarez in the January transfer window where Liverpool are in January in the Premier League table could define if Suarez stays or goes.

Rodgers told reporters at Melwood: "He's certainly not someone we want to sell or move on. He has been a brilliant player to work with and we want to add to our squad - not take people out of it, especially a world-class player.

"There will be no bidding war. He is staying here."

That statement has yet to come from Suarez’s mouth and the red-hot striker will surely question whether his talents are being wasted with a mid-table finish and now Champions League action.

Liverpool are currently 13th in the table.

The Etihad had been cited as one of the prospective places for Suarez to move to.

However, Roberto Mancini has put an end to that possibility at least for now.

The City manager was quoted in The Sun as saying, “It is not true, I don’t know.| This means that certain other Premier League clubs could be alerted to a possible Suarez move.

Not least among them could be Chelsea.

The coming of a second striker in January to Stamford Bridge seems a given considering Fernando Torres is too risky to depend on for goals.

Falcao may be over-priced and Neymar may lean towards Barcelona.

This is why a Suarez move to Chelsea, if he is indeed ready to move, may be ideal.

Suarez also has the kind of movement to easily fit into Chelsea’s new style of play – driven by the slick passing of Oscar, Eden Hazard and Juan Mata.

Suarez is currently being priced at about £50million, but given his goal scoring record that would be money well spent.

Rodgers speaks highly of Suarez’s commitment to Liverpool. That will be tested if Liverpool are mid-table and the right money comes around.
