Suarez's Liverpool days numbered...

Liverpool are to launch an internal disciplinary inquiry against Luis Suarez who has been accused of lying to his manager and undermining the club.

The Uruguay striker not only reviled Manchester United fans by refusing to shake hands with Patrice Evra with an infuriated Sir Alex Ferguson saying Suarez should never be playing for Liverpool again.

He has upset the establishment and the hierarchy of the Kop with his petulant behaviour after having just returned from an eight-match suspension for racially abusing Evra in October.

Suarez's days at Anfield are certainly numbered as Liverpool moved swiftly to quell criticism for the manner in which they handled the racism issue.

Up until Saturday, Liverpool not least of all manager Kenny Dalglish has staunchly backed Suarez despite the Football Association finding him guilty for the racist slur.

However, his refusal to spurn the golden handshake offered by Evra which would have gone a long way in healing the wounds, was the final straw which broke Liverpool's dogged stance in support of Suarez.

Not even his belated apology for betraying Dalglish looks likely to stop the club’s owners from offloading him in the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

Suarez has now been condemned by Dalglish and managing director Ian Ayre, who insisted he has let down the club, the manager and his team-mates for refusing to shake the hand of Evra in the high-octane clash at Old Trafford on Saturday.

In an uncompromising statement issued by Ayre and endorsed by American owners John Henry and Tom Werner, the club detailed the betrayal they feel after Suarez insisted to Dalglish he would shake hands, but then went back on his word.

Dalglish issued his own apology, after viewing a tape of the incident, and realising just how much he had been misled by the striker he has backed so vehemently.

Liverpool will now begin a hearing against Suarez, which is likely to lead to punishment that will include a fine agreed with the PFA.

But this is the clearest indication yet that Liverpool have lost patient with Suarez who joined the club a year ago.

The owners are likley to cut their losses and sell the striker in the summer.

Suarez issuing his own apology through the club, stated: “I have spoken with the manager since the game at Old Trafford and realise I got things wrong.

“I’ve not only let him down, but also the club and what it stands for and I’m sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened.”

But it has come after the horse has literally bolted.

Dalglish has been angered by the position he was put in after the match, forcing him to defend his player's actions on TV.

The Liverpool boss feels betrayed because Suarez had sat in the manager’s office on Wednesday and insisted he would shake hands.

It remains to be seen whether the Liverpool legend will be willing to forgive Suarez for undermine the traditions of the club.

Although he would not say it himself, Dalglish’s feelings were revealed by his close friend Alan Hansen, who insisted Suarez had “let Kenny down” despite receiving “unequivocal support”, according to the report.

The club wants to draw a line under the row. It could happen only if Suarez leaves in summer. Or else Liverpool should forget about rebuilding relations with both the FA and Manchester United.
