Zaha in, Sterling out: Liverpool to be feeder club

To say there are few clubs with a greater and more storied tradition than Liverpool is to say Luis Suarez is a diver.

To state the obvious it would seem.

At least as far as Suarez and Fifa go.

The Vice-President of football’s apex governing body Jim Boyce, said: “I have seen several incidents recently and I saw the latest Suarez incident two or three times.

“To me it is nothing less than a form of cheating.”

Is Suarez sullying the name of Liverpool? That is for the Kop to decide.

However, everyday news that Liverpool is looking to buy players must raise eyebrows.

British media today put young Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha in prime position to make a Liverpool switch.

What then of Raheem Sterling? And Samed Yesil? And Oussama Assaidi?

The Brendan Rodgers revolution at Anfield is going to be grass-roots, young and tiki-taka.

However, simply because Liverpool has such a big name, and following, irrespective of where they finish in the league (currently seventh… from bottom), their players will have better exposure to the footballing world and genuine title-contenders.

This means, that Liverpool could soon be reduced to a club that offers talent the best display spot for big clubs window shopping.

The word is ‘feeder’ club. Think Porto.

Yes, there will be a revolution. With or without “the ball”, with or without Brendan Rodgers.

Till then, young stars like Raheem Sterling will be at risk of leaving.

Manchester City are set to battle Liverpool for Zaha.

Ironically, Zaha may join Liverpool precisely because he will have a better chance of playing in the first team, so that when he is ready to move to City, he can command a higher price… like Sterling who would have already moved by then.

Stop buying, start winning might be a better strategy for Rodgers.

And what should he do with Suarez? Ask Kenny Dalglish. Suarez can hurt you badly.

THE NEXT LIVERPOOL STAR OR SALE?
