Dubai’s Union Properties will be building three hotels and reconverting its existing Auto Mall to conventional mall in MotorCity,
its flagship development in Dubailand, a senior company executive told Emirates 24/7.

Ahmad Khalaf Obaid Bin Touq Al Marri, General Manager

“We have three plots dedicated for our hotels in MotorCity. These will be in the three- to four-star category. We are planning one in Dubai
Investment Park (DIP) and are in talks with another master developer on the other,” Ahmad Khalaf Obaid Bin Touq Al Marri, General Manager, Union Properties, told this website on Sunday at Cityscape Global.

The developer, which is listed on Dubai Financial Market, is planning to operate and manage at least 1,000 keys in the coming five years.

“That is our plan for the future. We are also working on many things such as a leisure and entertainment district in MotorCity with the aim
to make the development a unique family destination,” Al Marri said.

Union Properties said last year it was planning to invest over Dh10 billion in building six new projects.

Talking about new mixed-use district planned in MotorCity, Al Marri said that work will start on the new district, which replaces the F1
theme park, once all approvals are received from Dubai Municipality.

“The new mixed-use development will consist of residential, commercial, retail and entertainment facilities. We have all the rides
with us and we are awaiting approvals to commence work on the project.”

In March 2013, the developer officially announced scrapping of the F1 theme park project

Dubai Expo impact

Al Marri said though the company has been working on their new plans for some time, it was Dubai’s Expo 2020 win that has now fasten up the pace of these new launches.

“Dubai’s Expo 2020 win has propelled us to fasten the pace of implementing our business strategy… what we would have announced a few
years later, we are announcing now,” he asserted.

Dubai will be hosting the Expo 2020 from October 2020 till April 2021, which will bring over 25 million visitors to the emirate.

On Sunday, Union Properties announced three projects worth Dh2.15 billion at Cityscape, which includes Dh1.1-billion The Vertex, a
five-tower project, in MotorCity, Dh400 million phase 2 and 3 of Green Community, MotorCity, and Dh650 million phase 3 of Green Community, DIP.
