Free meals at Iftar time will be provided to fasting motorists on some roads in Dubai.

The initiative is named ‘Ramadan Aman…Together Towards Accident-Free Ramadan’ and is aimed towards safety on the road during the month of Ramadan and is launched by Al Ihsan Charitable Society.

The RTA will deploy its Charity Bus to distribute the iftar meals on the road: “We will assist the campaign in achieving its objectives of distributing Iftar meals to motorists on roads and intersections during the Maghreb Adhan (call for prayer) in a bid to safeguard the lives of drivers on the road during the Iftar time, and curb excessive speed and potential accidents during this time,” said Yousef Al Rida, Executive Director of Corporate Support Services Sector of the RTA.

Khalid Mohammed bin Tamim, Head of the Organising Committee of the campaign, said: “This offers us a great help in achieving our humanitarian mission of distributing meals to the largest possible number of targeted individuals.”

Dewa, one of the main sponsors of the campaign, said that the objective behind this effort is to save the lives of drivers, who usually speed during Ramadan rush hour before Maghreb prayer, by stressing the importance of abiding by traffic rules and avoiding speeding, which increases the risk of accidents. The campaign also encourages individuals and organisations to take part in community service and voluntary work.

In another initiative named ‘With You’ the RTA will distribute Ramadan rations to 200 needy families with its Charity Bus. The bus will visit certain communities in Oud Mateena, Al Qusais, and Old Al Quouz.

Metro users and bus visitors will also be treated with Iftar meals, as 1,750 Iftar meals will be distributed to visitors of bus stations at Al Ghubaiba, Gold Souk, and Al Qusais, as well as Burjuman and Union metro stations.
