Sharjah Transport has announced that it will postpone the implementation of Dh10 minimum taxi fare from the beginning of September to the beginning of October.
The tariff will also increase. It will be revised to Dh1 for every 620 metres covered, against the present rate of Dh1 for every 650 metres covered.
Though the starting fare will remain the same at Dh3.50 during the day and Dh4 at night, passengers will have to pay a minimum of Dh10 for a journey from October.
According to Sharjah Transport, the introduction of a minimum fare is intended to benefit passengers as well as the five taxi franchisee companies since it will enable the latter to improve their quality of service.
