Siemens, the global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering operating in the energy, infrastructure, industry and healthcare sectors, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a health and wellness destination that brings together a wealth of services in healthcare, medical education and research, during the Arab Health 2014 exhibition in Dubai. The agreement focuses on collaboration in medical education and training, further extending the skills and capabilities of healthcare professionals.

The memorandum was signed on Wednesday 29th January at the DHCC stand by Kay Zwingenberger, CEO of Siemens Healthcare Middle East and Marwan Abedin, CEO of DHCC, and in the presence of Dr Wajdi Al Daghma, Chief Operating Officer (Strategy & Operation), DHCC and Dr Norbert Gaus, CEO of Customer Solutions Division, Siemens AG Healthcare Sector. The agreement sets out a broad framework for future medical educational initiatives in the UAE and the region.

“This agreement will see us further strengthen our relationship with DHCC, with a focus on the continuous professional development of the Middle East’s medical workforce. This is a core part of our company’s drive to support the sustainable growth of every country that Siemens does business in,” said Zwingenberger.

As part of the collaboration, Siemens will be supplying a mock-up of its Somatom Emotion CT scanner to DHCC’s Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Medical Simulation Center (KHMSC). The center is a state-of-the-art facility that provides medical professionals with hands-on clinical training in a simulated environment. The new equipment from Siemens will be used to help familiarize healthcare teams with some of the latest imaging innovations being used in the region’s hospitals.

Marwan Abedin, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), said: “This partnership with Siemens emphasizes our broader objective towards furthering medical education and supporting sustainable healthcare development in the UAE. Siemens has a strong track record in elevating the healthcare sector in the region, and we look forward to capitalizing on their expertise in providing clinical diagnostic solutions. This collaboration is set to support our mutual mission towards enhancing professional development and tertiary healthcare, and ultimately positioning Dubai as a credible leader in medical education.”
