A team has been formed dedicated to cleaning up after an accident occurs on Dubai roads, said Dubai Municipality.

The team was formed in response to a current increase of requests of such services in Dubai.

“We have been doing this service for many years in coordination with the concerned departments to ensure the cleanliness of the city round the clock.

“Currently we have a dedicated team for this purpose as we received increased requests to clean the road after accidents, like the collapse of trucks loaded with sand, vegetables, construction waste, oils ..etc, leading to the full closure of roads and traffic disruption,” said Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director of the Waste Management Department.

After an accident has occurred, debris is often scattered on the road forming a hindrance to other road users. In some cases larger objects such as vehicle tyres are found on the road, posing a considerable danger to traffic.

Asked how these objects can safely be removed on a road where traffic is passing by, Saifaie guarantees that the job is in the hands of a well-trained team.

“Our team is always on the road and is experienced in highway cleaning. When a certain area must be cleaned, the lane will be closed with a warning vehicle that instructs other road users to divert from the lane.

“The workers are always at safe distance from this vehicle and the job has never let to any accident,” he confirmed.

The services are provided by the department without any costs, Saifaie added. “The parties involved in the accident are not asked to pay for this. If there was an accident and there are parts lying around on the road, the road must be cleaned for the safety of everybody.”

During the first nine months of this year a total 405 notifications on road accidents requiring clean up services were received.
