Aljazeera sports newsman dies

A well-known sports newscaster at Qatar’s Aljazeera satellite TV news channel has died following a long illness, newspapers reported on Wednesday.

Munqeth Al Ali, a Syrian, died in the United States while having treatment at a hospital in Virginia, they said, citing a statement by Aljazeera.

Born in the central Syrian town of Hama, Al Ali graduated from the faculty of arts at Damascus University and worked for the official Syrian TV for nearly 10 years before joining Aljazeera as a sports news reader.
