Sachin Tendulkar's career is officially over as he disappears into the dressing room.

The crowd continues to chant "Sa-chin, Sa-chin" as he performs a lap of honour with his family carrying the Indian flag on the shoulders of Dhoni and Kohli.

Last but not least, the spectators go berserk as he thanks the fans.

"I want to thank all of you here. Your support is so dear and has meant a lot to me. I met so many guys who have fasted for me, prayed for me. Without all that life would not be like this for me. Time has flown by rather quickly, but the memories you have left for me will be with me always. Especially Sa-chin, Sa-chin, will be in my ears until I stop breathing," he said.

"A big thank you to all the doctors for keeping me in good shape," said Tendulkar who also remembered his first manager the late Mark Mascarenhas.

Ever the humble man, Tendulkar who is hero worshipped by Indian said: "I just feel that all of us are so fortunate and proud to be part of Indian cricket team serving the nation. I know all of you will continue serving the nation in the right spirit and right value. I believe we are the lucky ones chosen by the almighty to take care of this sport. Each generation has the opportunity to take care of the sport. I have full belief that you will continue to serve the country and the sport in the right spirit."

"Many seniors inspired me to play cricket and play cricket the right way. I have not been able to play with them but have high regard for them and the way they played the game," he said thanking his contemparies whom he described as being a "family away from home".

He did not fail to thank the Mumbai Cricket Association and the BCCI.

"I remember coming back from NZ at 4 am and turning up for a match at 9 am not because anyone forced me but because I wanted to be here. Thank you to Mumbai Cricket.

"Thanks to all the selectors for having faith in me and BCCI for giving me the freedom to express myself in the middle. I really appreciate your support, especially when I was injured," he said.

Tendulkar who began playing cricket from the age of 11 said the turning point of his career came when his brother took him to his coach Achrekar.

"I was extremely delighted to see him in the stands. Normally he watches every game on television," he said with gratitude.

"Sir would take me all over Mumbai to make sure I would get match practice. On a lighter note, sir has never said well played to me because he thought I would get complacent and stop working hard. Maybe now he can say well played for my career," he added.

Tendulkar wants to spend more time with his family especially his two grown-up children.

"Then the two precious diamonds of my life: Sara and Arjun. They have already grown up. My daughter is 16, my son is 14. Time has flown by. I wanted to spend so much time with them on special occasions like birthday, sports days, going on holiday. whatever. I have Missed out on all those things. Thanks for your understanding," he said.

Tendulkar thanked his mother who came to the ground to watch him in action for the first time.

"My mother - I don't know how she managed to cope with such a naughty child. She must have a lot of patience. She took care of me for the last 24 years that I have played for India, but even before that, she just prayed for me. She just prayed and prayed and prayed. Given me the strength to go out and perform," he said.

He dedicated his career achievements to his father.

"The most important person in my life and I have missed him a lot since 1999. My father. He gave me freedom since I was 11. Chase your dream but make sure you don't take shortcuts. Above all, he told me to be a nice person, which I have tried to do. Every time I have showed my bat, it was for him."

"My life between 22 yards for 24 years. It is hard to believe that wonderful journey is coming to end. Would like to thank people for the wonderful role they have played in my life. I am carrying a list for the first time. Getting difficult to talk but I will manage," he started.
