Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Aamer dismissed openers Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss as England made it to 103 for two at lunch on day one of the first test at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Cook (8) was first out, caught by first slip Imran Farhat off Aamer, before captain Strauss edged a short and wide delivery to wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal for 45 shortly before lunch. He had also been dropped on 15.

Jonathan Trott was unbeaten on 35 after benefiting from the Decision Review System (DRS), while Kevin Pietersen made it to lunch on 1.

Aamer had figures of two for 19 from eight overs after taking a wicket from opposite ends of the ground.

Pakistan thought they had Trott out when he was adjudged lbw to leg-spinner Danish Kaneria for 13.

Trott immediately signalled for the DRS system after Sri Lankan umpire Asoka de Silva's decision.

The replay quickly showed the batsman had got an inside edge on to his pads and the decision was overturned, the process taking less than a minute.

Strauss had earlier been afforded a reprieve when he deflected a thin edge to Kamran Akmal after left-arm pacer Aamer swung the ball from leg stump to off.

An off-balance Akmal barely had to move yet dropped a simple chance.

Pakistan's players wore black armbands in memory of the 152 passengers who died in a plane crash near Islamabad on Wednesday.
