Amjad stars as Fly Emirates romp to first win

UAB shot out for 134 in Sharjah Ramadan tournament

Amjad Javed scored a scintillating half-century to steer Fly Emirates to a massive 85-run victory over United Arab Bank (UAB) in the 23rd Sharjah Ramadan Tournament for the Interface Transworld Cup at the Sharjah stadium on Sunday night.
The tournament, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, is supported by 106.2 HUM FM and CBFS as associate sponsors.
Fly Emirates dominated the proceedings right from the word go. Electing to bat after winning the toss, they piled up a mammoth 219 for eight in the allotted 25 overs and then shot out their opponents for 134 to seal their first win in the tournament.
Experienced Amjad Javed led the batting charge for Fly Emirates, hammering a blistering 86 off 51 balls which included 11 fours and two sixes. Khurram Khan (39 off 35) and Arshad Ali (31 off 30) further consolidated their innings.
Noman, Sohail and Mohammed Afzal picked up two wickets each for UAB.
In reply, UAB needed to produce something out of the ordinary to match pace with Fly Emirates’ big total. That failed to materialise and they folded up well short of their target in the 23rd over.
Faizan (44 off 35 balls four fours and two sixes), Noman (29 off 26) and Tariq (25 off 19) tried to make a match of it.
Arshad Ali bowled well for Fly Emirates, taking three for 21 while Nigel Fernando and Abdul Rehman snared two wickets to complete a resounding victory.
