Anchor Marine win Dubai Sevens cricket title

Anchor Marine beat Seven Seas Strikers to lift the inaugural Dubai Sports Council Seven-a-side trophy at the Zabeel Park in the tournament supported by Dubai Sports Council and conducted by the Dubai Cricket Council in which eight teams participated.

Fancied Seven Seas batted first and put up 69 runs with Shafaqat top scoring for them with an unbeaten 31 whie Qadir made 13.

Anchor Marine led by Bilal then made short work of the target as Bilal struck three sixes in his 30 runs before retiring and Hussain then made 18 runs in quick time to race past the target with a couple of balls to spare.

In the first semifinal Anchor Marine beat Golden Line by 21 runs as they first notched 87 runs riding on good knocks from Babar 31 (retired), Usman 26 not out and Bilal (16).

Golden Line were then restricted for 66. Oqais top scored for them with 35 not out and Faizan made 21.

In the second semifinal Seven Seas easily beat Dubai Sports Council after making 88. Shafaqat hit an unbeaten 30 and then restricted Dubai Sports Council to 42 runs.

Al Moutaz Billah Sharif  of Dubai Sports Council thanked  Mohamed Lokhandwala, Honorary Secretary of Dubai Cricket Council and presented a memento to DCC and gave the awards in company of Farrukh Siddiqui and Tariq Butt who had helped conduct the tournament.

Al Moutaz was pleased with their start in cricket and promised to build on it and plan bigger tournaments to promote the game in Dubai.

He presented the  winners trophy to  Kashif Rana captain of Anchor marine while the Runners Up trophy was received by Mohammed Zubair.

The Best Bowler of the tournament award was won by Farhan of Seven Seas, the Best Batsman award was won by Babar of Anchor Marine and the Player of the Tournament award went to Shafaqat who put up a superb all-round show scoring 92 in his three innings and picked up two wickets for Seven Seas Strikers.
