Champions League T20 Kings XI Punjab vs Hobart Hurricanes: Easy five-wicket win for Punjab

A stunning batting performance from Kings XI Punjab batsmen ensured they secured a comfortable five-wicket victory over Hobart Hurricanes in the Champions League Twenty20 in Mohali.

Chasing 145 to win, Punjab were in trouble losing Virender Sehwag in the very first ball. 

More trouble awaited when Punjab slipped to 23 for three. Glenn Maxwell (43), George Bailey (34 not out) and Thisara Perera (35 not out) played fruitful knocks as Punjab overhauled the target with 14 balls to spare.

Earlier, A half century partnership from Travis Birt (28) and Jonathan Wells (28) meant Hobart Hurricanes posted 144 for six in 20 overs.

Ben Dunk provided a good start to score 26 while Aiden Blizzard smashed a quick 27.

For Punjab, Thisara Perera claimed two wickets.

KINGS XI PUNJAB INNINGS

Perera and Bailey share a half century partnership as Punjab are racing to a convicning win. They need only 10 runs from 18 balls. KXIP 135-5 in 17 overs.

Kings XI Punjab are 112-5 in 14 overs. It looks all easy for them needing 33 from 36 balls.

A super over for Punjab as 18 runs comes off it thanks to a six from Perera and a boundary from Bailey. Punjab need another 50 from 48 balls. KXIP 95-5 in 12 overs.

Maxwell gets an edge to the wicketkeeper as Punjab lose the big man. KXIP 77-5 in 10.5 overs.

Glenn Maxwell c Paine b Gulbis 43 (25b 4x4 2x6)

Maxwell batting on 37 from 21 balls as Punjab need anotherr 74 form 60 runs. Doesn't look difficult as long as Maxwell is there in the middle. KXIP 71-4 in 10 overs.

Wickets are falling at regular intervals which is not a good thing for the Punjab team. But with Maxwell still around they still hold the advantage. KXIP 51-4 in in 7.3 overs.

Manan Vohra c Hilfenhaus b Laughlin 18 (21b 3x4 0x6) 

Maxwell has always been the man for Punjab. He is looking good here as well. Brilliant form as he gets two boundaries off Hilfenhaus bowling. KXIP 43-3 in 6 overs.

Punjab having trouble here as the big hitter Miller is back. Punjab still need 122 and they can't afford to lose more wickets. KXIP 23-3 in 3.5 overs.

David Miller c Boyce b Hilfenhaus 0 (3b 0x4 0x6) 

That's another wicket gone for Punjab. This could be trouble chasing a tricky target. Bollinger bowling with lot of fire as he removes Saha to take his second wicket. KXIP 21-2 in 2.5 overs.

Wriddhiman Saha c Shoaib Malik b Bollinger 11 (9b 1x4 0x6)

Virender Sehwag is gone the first ball as he offers a simple catch to Boyce off Bollinger bowling. KXIP 0-1 in 0-1 over.

HOBART HURRICANES INNINGS

Birt is gone but he has done a good job of scoring some quick runs. HH 143-6 in 19.5 overs.

Travivs Birt c Karanveer Singh b Awana 28 (21b 1x4 2x6)

A disappointing end to Wells after he is run out. He showed great form to put Hurricanes in a good position. HH 130-5 in 17.4 overs.

Jonathan Wells run out 28 (18b 5x4 0x6) 

Wells and Birt share a fine half century partnership from only 27 balls. A crucial one for Hurricanes. HH 128-4 in 17 overs.

Birt on fire as he smashes two huge sixes off Karanveer bowling. HH 109-4 in 15 overs.

Two boundaries from Anureet's over ensures Hurricanse get 10 runs from the over. Wells on 11 from seven balls. HH 91-4 in 14 overs.

Hurricanes having trouble here as they lose another wicket. Malik had just got a fine boundary before that as his attempt to sweep offers a simple catch to Bailey. HH 78-4 in 12.3 overs.

Shoaib Malik c Bailey b Karanveer Singh 14 (14b 1x4 0x6)

Another wicket gone after the batsman had settled in. Blizzard played a brief cameo to give Hurricanes a push before Perera removed him to take his second wicket. HH 71-3 in 11.2 overs.

Aiden Blizzard c Awana b Perera 27 (18b 2x4 1x6)

The first six of Hurricanes innnings comes from Blizzard. HH 71-2 in 11 overs.

Hurricanes exactly have a six run rate with eight wickets in hand. They should be looking for a big haul. HH 60-2 in 10 overs.

A fine high catch from Maxwell as Dunk departs. A big blow for Hurricanes since he had just began to open up. HH 43-2 in 8 overs.

Ben Dunk c Maxwell b Perera 26 (25b 4x4 0x6) 

Sehwag bowls his first over as he concedes seven runs thanks to a boundary from Dunk. HH 38-1 in 7 overs.

Dunk takes on Awana as he hammers three boundaries to give Hurricanes a good score before the powerplay ends. HH 30-1 in 6 overs.

Akshar Patel comes to bowl and he succeeds immediately as Paine is bowled. Pressure builds on Hurricanes. HH 15-1 in 4.2 overs.

Tim Paine b Patel 11 (16b 1x4 0x6)

Another good over from Awana as he concedes only four runs in his two overs. Hurricanes openers have to get going to push the runrate. HH 15-0 in 4 overs.

The first boundary of the match comes from Paine but it's still the bowlers who are dominating. HH 12-0 in 3 overs.

Great over from Awana conceding just one run of it. HH 5-0 in 2 overs.

Cautious start from openers as Anureet bowls a fine over maintaining an impressive line. HH 4-0 in 1 over.

Paine, Dunk begin proceedings for Hurricanes while Anureet Singh bowls for Punjab.

Bailey won the toss and put Hobart Hurricanes to bat first.
