Chennai Super Kings rout Delhi

Chennai Super Kings notched their biggest IPL win routing Delhi Daredevils by 93 runs in Match 8 of IPL 7 at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

CSK shrugged off the disappointment of losing their opening game to Kings XI Punjab with a brilliant all-round performance on the field.

A swashbuckling half century by Suresh Raina (56) and cameos by Faf du Plessis and Dhoni helped Chennai batting first make 177-7.

Chasing a stiff target of 178, Delhi were never in the hunt losing wickets at regular intervals as they crumbled to some spectacular fielding from Raina and Faf du Plessis.

Pandey, Jadeja and Ashwin claimed two wickets apiece.

DELHI INNINGS

Raina takes another superb catch as Delhi fold up for 84-9 in 15.4 overs being effectively all out since Coulter-Nile cannot bat.

Chennai are not dropping anything with McCullum holding a superb catch to dismiss Shami. DD 82-8 in 14.2 overs.

Delhi are crumbling in a heap with Coulter-Nile unable to bat. DD 80-7 in 13.5 overs.

Ashwin strikes with his first delivery castling Karthik. DD 74-6 in 12.1 overs.

Neesham gets two consecutive boundaries off Jadeja but Delhi have a stiff task. DD 74-5 in 12 overs.

Karthik picks up a boundary off Smith by steering to third man but Delhi need more of those if they are to match a match of it. DD 63-5 in 11 overs.

The procession continues as Taylor departs caught behind. DD 50-5 in 9.2 overs.

Smith traps Duminy leg before with his first ball before the first strategic time out is taken. DD 42-4 in 8.1 overs.

Big over for Delhi as Pandey goes for 13 with Karthik crashing him past backward point. DD 37-3 in 7 overs.

Chennai are in complete control having throttled Delhi to 24-3 in the Batting Powerplay.

Faf du Plessis takes another brilliant catch to dismiss Tiwary for a duck as Delhi are imploding. DD 17-3 in 4.2 overs.

Vijay hits a boundary off Mohit with a wristy shot but falls to a brilliant catch running back from mid-off. DD 15-2 in 3.3 overs.

Raina takes a superb catch to dismiss Agarwal. DD 8-1 in 2.1 overs.

Vijay hits the first boundary of the innings lofting Pandey over extra cover. DD 6-0 in 1 over.

CHENNAI INNINGS

A swashbuckling half century from Suresh Raina (56 off 41 bals with five boundaries and a six) propelled CSK to 177-7.

Smith cracked a run a ball 28 at the top while brilliant cameos from Faf du Plessi (24 from 17) and Dhoni (32 off 15 with two boundaries and two sixes) maintained the momentum of the innings.

Delhi were handicapped in the bowling department as Nathan Coulter-Nile went off suffering an injury while fielding.

Shami went for plenty while Unadkat claimed three for 32.

Chennai Super Kings scored 58 in the last four overs to make a competitive total of 177-7 after opting to bat first.

Ashwin is run out backing up too far. CSK 173-7 in 19.5 overs.

Jadeja is caught behind after hammering the first ball from Jadeja for a six. CSK 162-6 in 19 overs.

Dhoni blasts Unadkat with a savage shot down the ground before perishing next ball with Agarwal taking a superb catch. CSK 156-5 in 18.4 overs.

Dhoni continues to bat merrily standing on his toes and smashing a short ball from Shami over point. CSK 150-4 in 18 overs.

Faf du Plessis clobbers a short ball from Shami for a six but perishes next ball holing out to Vijay in the deep. CsK 141-4 in 17.2 overs.

Dhoni turns it on in the final overs blasting a six and boundary off Unadkat. CSK 135-3 in 17 overs.

Raina perishes as he tries to blast Neesham out of the ground only to sky it to Vijay. CSK 108-3 in 14.4 overs.

Big over for Chennai as Raina rocks cracking three boundaries off part time bowler Vijay. CSK 90-2 in 12 overs.

Nadeem strikes beating Smith with the arm ball. CSK 77-2 in 11 overs.

Raina belts Nadeem back over the bowler's head for a towering six.

Raina slog sweeps Duminy finding the gap at backward square leg for a boundary. CSK 66-1 in 10 overs.

Smith rocks backs and pulls a short ball from Neesham flat over square leg. CSK 55-1 in 9 overs.

Duminy bowls a tight over conceding just three runs before the first strategic time-out. CSK 46-1 in 8 overs.

Raina gets cracking lofting Neesham over extra cover for his first boundary.

The bad news for Delhi is that Coulter-Nile who suffered an injury while diving on the field, will be off the field indefinitely. CSK 34-1 in 6 overs.

Duminy drops McCullum but it does not prove costly as the New Zealand slashes and is caught off a thick outside edge. CSK 23-1 in 3.2 overs.

Brendon McCullum c sub (Wayne Parnell) b Unadkat 9 (10b 1x4 0x6)

McCullum gets cracking using his feet to loft Nadeem over mid-off for a boundary. CSK 23-0 n 3 overs.

Smith gets another boundary by punching Shami through the covers. CSK 14-0 in 2 overs.

Smith survives a confident shout for leg before off Shami after having hit the first boundary of the match by pulling to square leg.

Duminy opens the attack and CSK are off the mark with Smith and Brendon McCullum on strike. CSK 4-0 in 1 over.

Dhoni has won the toss and Chennai have opted to bat first.

Chennai lost their opening match against Kings XI Punjab despite scoring in excess of 200.

Delhi Daredevils began their season with a big loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore, but bounced back to trounce Kolkata Knight Riders in their second match.
