CLT20 Match 10: Dhoni, Raina power Chennai to superb win over Hyderabad

Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashed eight huge sixes including five in one over to score an unbeaten 63 from only 19 balls While Raina scored 84 as Chennai Super Kings registered a 12-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ranchi.

Chennai who were asked to bat first, lost Murali Vijay early before Michael Hussey (23) and Suresh Raina put them back on track. Raina scored at ease as he made 84 from 57 deliveries including nine boundaries and a six.

But it was Dhoni's carnage in the end that ensured Chennai had a strong total.

In reply, Hyderabad got off to a good start with Parthiv Patel (38) and Shikhar Dhawan (48) sharing 88 runs for the opening wicket.

But once the pair fell Hyderabad lost their way before Darren Sammy revived the hopes with a blistering 25-ball 50.

Hyderabad need 58 runs form 24 balls. SRH 145-5 in 16 overs.

One more wicket and not good at all for Hyderabad. SRH 138-5 in 15.1 overs.

Three sixes in the over from Sammy. He is putting up a fight here. SRH 138-4 in 15 overs.

Hyderabad need 87 from 36 balls. SRH 116-4 in 14 overs.

It's slipping out as another wicket falls. Perara holes one in the deep. SRH 107-4 in 13.1 overs.

Perera smashes a six but they need such shots frequently. SRH 107-3 in 13 overs.

Hyderabad need 106 from 48 balls. THey certainly need some big hitting. SRH 97-3 in 12 overs.

That's another quick wicket. Hyderabad losing their way as they lose an important wicket of Dhawan. SRH 92-3 in 11 overs.

A good partnership building up. They need to go on the same way if they were to look at chasing a huge target. SRH 49-2 in 5 overs.

Boundaries coming quite frequently. The openers are finding the gaps easily. SRH 37-0 in 4 overs.

Dhawan gets into the act. SRH 26-0 in 3 overs.

Patel gets his second boundary. They have to ensure they don't lose wickets here. SRH 16-0 in 2 overs.

Positive start from the openers. SRH 8-0 in 1 over.

Another two sixes from Dhoni as Chennai cross 200. It's unbelievable cricket out there with the last 50 coming off just 15 balls. CSK end at 202 for 4 in 20 overs.

Dhoni continues to fire. He is on 48 already. Could easily get the fastest 50. 114 off the last nine overs. CSK 183-4 in 19 overs.

After the carnage, Steyn gets Raina. A good catch in the deep from Perera. At least something to smile for the Sri Lankan. CSK 175-4 in 18.2 overs.

Skipper Dhoni on fire here. FIve sixes in the over. The biggest in the tournament so far. 34 runs from that over of Perera. Dhoni on 43 from 13 balls. CSK 175-3 in 18 overs.

Steyn bowls a tight over. Good one for Hyderabad at this stage. Just five runs off it. CSK 141-3 in 17 overs.

10 runs off it and Chennai are 136-3 in 16 overs.

Dhoni gets to his act right away. Brilliant six. Raina reaches 73. CSK 126-3 in 15 overs.

Duminy comes into bowl and tastes success in the first ball. His second wicket as Badrinath departs. CSK 115-3 in 14.1 overs.

Chennai in a great position here. Raina is playing a brilliant knock and looks to be heading for a big score. CSK 115-2 in 14 overs.

Raina on fire here. He is playing smart cricket dealing in boundaries. CSK 101-2 in 13 overs.

Sammy's first over is all singles. CSK 85-2 in 12 overs.

Raina enters 40s and is looking good. Badrinath playing the second fiddle. CSK 79-2 in 11 overs.

Half way through and Chennai look in a good position, but they need some big shots coming in now. CSK 69-2 in 10 overs.

Run rate just over six. Raina still going strong and there is lot of batting coming for Chennai. CSK 61-2 in 9

Raina reaches 25. Things slow down a bit for Chennai. CSK 52-2 in 8 overs.

Duminy strikes. Hussey does not wait for the umpire as he walks out after edging it to the keeper. CSK 45-2 in 6.2 overs.

A powerful six from Hussey and a cheeky boundary from Raina. Expensive over for Hyderabad as 15 runs comes of it. CSK 44-1 in 6 overs.

Four runs from the over. CSK 29-1 in 5 overs.

Raina looks in great touch. Some fine cover drives to watch. CSK 25-1 in 4 overs.

Steyn bowls a fine over. Hussey and Raina adopting a cautious approach here. CSK 14-1 in 3 overs.

Ishant Sharma getting good bounce there. A fine over with just four runs. CSK 12-1 in 2 overs.

Eventful over this. Early wicket and then Raina gets two classy boundaries. CSK 8-0 in 1 over.

The bowlers are getting a lot from the pitch, and Steyn makes use of it to strike early. Vijay is gone. CSK 0-1 in 0.2 overs

Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey open for Chennai while Dale Steyn prepares to bowl for Hyderabad.

Shikhar Dhawan says due to the dew later on it will be hard for the bowlers. So it's a good toss to win, while MS Dhoni also said he would have fielded as well.

The Chennai Super Kings will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 10 of the Champions League at JSCA International Cricket Stadium, Ranchi on Thursday which will see the winner climb to the top of Group B standings.

Both teams have notched wins in their previous matches. CSK defeating the Titans by four wickets on Sunday whiel the Sunrisers beat Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday.

CSK have a 2-0 advantage against the Sunrisers Hyerabad. The won on both occasions in the league stages of IPL 2013.
