CPL T20 TKR vs SLZ: Zouks win opener by six wickets

The Caribbean Premier League got off to a perfect start with St Lucia Zouks pulling off a six-wicket win over Trinbago Knight Riders at the Queen's Park Oval on Thursday.

A half century (52) from Johnson Charles helped Zouks surpass TKR's total of 162 with five balls to spare.

Earlier, Darren Bravo struck a fine unbeaten half century to lift his side after Darren Sammy won the toss and put TKR in.

Dwayne Bravo's side lost three top wickets until Darren and Umar Akmal raised a partnership to revive the Knight Riders.

Bravo went on to hit 63 from 44 balls with four sixes and two fours, while Akmal chipped in with 30 from 28 balls.

Shane Watson was Zouks' best bowler with three wickets.

A slower delivery from Bravo and Hussey plays all over. Zouls 147-4, 18.1 overs.

David Miller launched into Ronsford Beaton hitting him for two fours and a six.Zouks 140-3, 17 overs.

After 15 overs Zouks are 119-3, TKR were 108 for 3.

Narine strikes again getting the faintest of nicks off Fletcher's bat for Akmal to take the catch. Zouks 104-3, 13.1 overs.

Good reflexes by McCullum at first slip after he fumbled initially to get the back of Charles. It looked like a no-ball from Narine at first with nothing behind the line but the decision goes in TKR's favour. Zouks 95-2, 12 overs.

Johnson Charles is leading Zouks' chase having compiled his half century. Zouks are 85-1, 10 overs. TKR 63 for 3.

Zouks get the breakthrough they needed from their captain Dwayne Bravo who got dangerman Watson to miscue and hole out to Narine. Zouks 47-1, 5.5 overs.

After five overs Zouks are 45-0, while TKR were 34 for 1.

Watson bangs the ball short and Akmal is deceived trying to pull him only to top-edge it back to the bowler. TKR 124-4, 17.2 overs.

Bravo and Umar Akmal have stepped on the pedal to bring up their 50-run partnership. TKR 108-3, 15 overs.

Darren Bravo pulls Ramsaran efforlessly over mid-wicket for a maximum. TKR 81-3, 12 overs.

Amla goes for another six but mistimes it and skies it to Mayers. TKR 58-3, 9 overs.

Watson gets a wicket in his third ball, banging the ball short to force Munro to go for a pull shot and top edge it into Sammy's safe pairs of hands. TKR 28-2, 5.3 overs.

All 34 matches in this year’s CPL will be broadcast live on Facebook around the world, via Facebook’s official live streaming partner Grabyo.

CPL will become the first sports league to supplement its existing broadcast deals and use the Facebook Live platform to ensure that 40 countries around the world, including the likes of Pakistan, South Africa and the Philippines can now view it  live. It will also be the first time ever an international cricket match has been broadcast using Facebook Live.

A host of international stars will be competing from across the cricketing world at this year’s CPL including the likes of AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Shakib Al Hasan, Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill, Shoaib Malik, Kumar Sangakkara, Dale Steyn, Mike Hussey and Shane Watson.

In addition, the six CPL sides – Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, St. Lucia Zouks and Trinbago Knight Riders will include a host of ICC World T20 champions including the likes of Carlos Brathwaite, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle and Andre Russell who took the world by storm in India earlier this year.

Cricket fans from Argentina to Hungary will now be able to the world’s biggest T20 stars in action starting with Trinbago Knight Riders clash with St. Lucia Zouks from the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Wednesday, 29 June (9pm Caribbean / 2am GMT / 6.30am India) and running through to the final in St. Kitts & Nevis on 7 August.
