KPL Dubai will hold a total of eight matches at the ICC Global Cricket Grounds this weekend.

While two matches are scheduled to be held on Thursday and Saturday, four matches will be played on Friday.

Phoenix Medicine-Kollam Kernals will take on Thumbay Kasargod Leopards, while Trissur Dynamites Yogi Group will face Globelink Weststar Shipping Pathanamthitta Rajas in Thursday’s matches at 7.30pm.

Kollam and Pathanamthitta are new additions in the 12-team tournament.

Friday’s matches will start at 3:30pm with Thrissur Dynamites Yogi Group up against Global Distribution Malappuram Knights.

The match between Thumbay Kasargod Leopards and Calicut Zamorins Supported by du will also be held at the same time.

The second matches, starting at 7.30 pm, will see Capital Kochi Diwans taking on Globalink Weststar Shipping Pathanamthitta Rajas and CSS Alleppey Ripples facing Concord Ventures Palakkad Harvestors.

In Saturday’s matches to be held at 7.30pm defending champions Dunes Cusine Kannur Veerans, who won the inaugural match, will face new team Phoenix Medicine Kollam Kernals.

In the second match at the same time, DCB KINGS X1 Trivandrum Royals will meet Global Distribution Malappuram Knights.

The Twenty20 tournament, being held under the auspices of Dubai Cricket Council, was inaugurated last week by Kerala Labour Minister Shibu Baby John in the presence of Indian cricketer S Sreesanth, Kerala film star Suresh Gopi and DCC officials.

In the inaugural match, defending champions Kannur defeated Calicut by 27 runs, thanks to an all-round performance from UAE player Arshad Ali.

He smashed a half-century and then picked up two wickets to star in the convincing victory.

A total of 12 teams are participating in the tournament, which offers a total prize money of Dh185,000.

Each team is allowed to have two overseas players and several teams have already secured some top players from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, UAE and Afghanistan.

The eventual winner will be richer by Dh100,000, up from last season’s prize money of Dh60,000.

The tournament’s final will be held at the Dubai Sports City stadium on December 2.

A majority of the league matches will be held at the ICC Global Academy grounds in Dubai.

One of the major highlights of KPL Season 2 is a T20 between Film Directors XI and Actors Kerala titled as 'Cinema Cricket Match' at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on December 1.
