Eurocon lift Bukhatir Twenty20 Challenge Cup

Gyan Steel fall short by 31 runs in high-scoring final

Eurocon Alubond reserved their best for last when they defeated Gyan Steel by 31 runs to win the Bukhatir Twenty20 Challenge Cup, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, at the Sharjah stadium at weekend.

In a high-scoring final that produced 421 runs in 40 overs, Eurocon seized the early initiative when they piled up a huge 226 for three.

Shahzad Manna and Mohammed Azam led their blistering batting charge with fluent innings.

Mana scored 89 off 55 balls with seven fours and five sixes while man of the match Azam cracked 82 off just 40 balls which included nine fours and five sixes.
Vikrant Shetty also joined the run feast, chipping with an unbeaten 38 off 18 balls with two fours and three sixes.

Gyan Steel, in reply, were restricted to 195 for nine with Irfan Haji claiming three wickets for 38 runs. Most of their frontline batsmen were among the runs, but they failed to convert their starts into big innings they needed to match the ever-increasing asking rate.

Zeeshan Khan top-scored with 44 off 24 balls with four fours and two sixes while their in-form batsman Abdul Shakoor could manage only 28 off 21 balls.

Mudassar Ijaz (24 not out off 11 balls), Umair Khan (23 off nine balls with one fours and three sixes) and Shahzad Ahmed (22 off 16 balls) were the other major scorers.
