India v Australia 4th Test: India ahead after day 2

India made 266-8 in 68.1 overs in reply to Australia's first innings total of 262 on the second day of the fourth and final Test against India at Feroz Shah Kolta ground in Delhi on Saturday.

Australia clawed back to restrict India who got off to a flying start with openers Vijay (57) and Pujara (52) putting on 108 runs in 25.1 overs.

Off spinner Nathan Lyon (below) who was introduced after 19 overs kept pegging away to claim five for 94 off 22.1 overs during his marathon spell.



He got the prized wicket of Tendulkar (32) who was lucky to survive a confident leg before appeal earlier in the innings.

Dhoni (24) and Jadeja (43) hit breezy knocks but Australia prevented them from running away with the game.

Pattinson dismissed Dhoni with a low and slow bouncer while Jadeja was trapped leg before by Maxwell's second delivery.

Kumar is unbeaten on 10 after Ashwin fell in the last over of the day which was extended by half an hour to complete the minimum number of overs.

India added 131 runs in 30 overs during the final session.

EVENING SESSION

India lose their eighth wicket in the last over of the day as Lyon traps Ashwin plumb in front leg before.

Ashwin faced 41 balls for his 12 which contained one boundary.

Kumar edges a full toss from Maxwell pass slip as India nose ahead by four runs.

Siddle has been given a warning from umpire Aleem Dar for running on the pitch on his follow through.

Jadeja made 43 off 49 balls with six boundaries having added 44 runs in 63 balls with Ashwin for the seventh wicket.

Jadeja cuts Lyon late for a boundary to third man to bring up the 250 of the Indian innings in the 62nd over.

Jadeja has smashed consecutive boundaries off Lyon lofting over the bowler's head on both occasions.

Ashwin has hit his first boundary with a reverse sweep off Lyon.

Dhoni hit 24 off 23 balls with two boundaries adding 30 runs in even time for the sixth wicket with Jadeja.

The boundaries continue to come for India through overthrows and Jadeja who punches Pattinson past mid on and survives a confident leg before appeal in an eventful over.

The 200 of the India innings comes in the 51st over with the fourth fifty coming off just 49 balls.

There is a bit of drama in the middle with Dhoni being warned twice for running on the pitch with umpire Aleem Dar having to speak to Australia captain Shane Watson to rein in Warner.

Jadeja opens his account with a boundary cutting Lyon over point who has figures of 15-0-57-4 after getting Tendulkar.

The 150 of the Australia innings comes in the 43rd over with the third fifty coming in 91 balls.

Rahane survives a leg before appeal first ball and is struck on the helmet as he ducks a short pitched delivery from Siddle.

Vijay's dismissal brings Test debutant Ajinkya Rahane to the middle.

Vijay (below) made 57 off 123 balls with eight boundaries and added 34 runs for the third wicket with Tendulkar.



Siddle has taken his 150th wicket in his 41st match.

Tendulkar has hit the first two balls from Siddle after the tea interval for boundaries on either side of the wicket.

Vijay is unbeaten on 54 off 114 balls with eight boundaries while Tendulkar is on 12 off 30 balls having two boundaries.

Australia have bounced back in the middle session claiming two wickets as India made 76 in 24 overs.

Lyon struck in consecutive overs to dismiss Pujara (52) bowled and Kohli lbw to have figures of 10-1-32-2.

He was unlucky not to bag a third with Tendulkar fortunate to be adjudged leg before as he missed the line attempting to sweep the off spinner.

AFTERNOON SESSION

Tendulkar gets his first boundary sweeping Lyon to square leg.

Lyon and Johnson send down a couple of maiden overs as India struggle for runs now following the dismissals of Pujara and Kohli with Tendulkar having two close calls with appeals for leg before.

Tendulkar is lucky to survive a confident leg before appeal off Lyon as he attempts to sweep him with replays showing it would have gone on to hit the stumps.

Tendulkar gets off the mark clipping Johnson for a single after facing 10 deliveries.

Vijay has danced down the track and chipped Lyon to midwicket for another boundary.

Vijay completes his third Test fifty off 85 balls with a single off Pattinson.

His knocked contained seven boundaries.

Off spinner Lyon has figures of 5-0-18-2 as Australia bounce back.

Pujara hit five boundaries facing 76 balls during his fluent opening stand with Viyay wo is batting on 44.

The 100 partnership between Vijay and Pujara comes in the 24th over with an overthrow to the boundary from Mathew Wade which is followed by four byes of JOhnson.

His half century has contained five boundaries so far.

Vijay has attack Lyon stepping out and blasting him to the long off boundary in his second over.

Vijay has helped himself to another boundary off Johnson who drifts a delivery onto the pads which is flicked to fine leg.

Spin has been introduced by Australia for the first time with Nathan Lyon coming to bowl with India 78 for no loss in 19 overs.

Pujara drives Siddle through the covers in the second over as India are racing along merrily.

Murali Vijay became the 59th India to complete 1,000 Test runs.

Pujara is is unbeaten on 28 with three boundaries while Vijay is on 23 with four boundaries with both having faced 42 balls apiece.

Australia employed all-out pace without success with Johnson going for 28 in his six over, Pattinson had figures of 4-1-8-0 and Siddle 4-2-5-0.

Siddle (51) was Australia's top scorer hitting a maiden Test fifty after battling for three hours.

Ashwin finished with five for 57, his ninth in 16 matches while Ojha claimed his 100th Test wicket in 22 matches after claiming Pattinson caught by Kohli at slip.

MORNING SESSION

Vijay has edged another one from Johnson past slip to the third man boundary.

The 50-run opening partnership between Vijay and Pujara comes off just 56 balls.

After a brief lull, Vijay has edged Johnson past Watson at slip for his third boundary.

Vijay has hit a glorious shot on the onside for another boundary off Pattinson.

Pujara has hit his first boundary of Johnson with a perfect off drive as India are off to a quick start.

Pujara has flicked an attempted yorker from Pattinson to fine leg for another boundary.

Pujara has opened his account in similar fashion to Vijay punching Pattinson's second delivery through the covers with superb timing.

Australia are all out for 262 continuing from their overnight 231-8 on the second day of the fourth and final Test against India at Feroz Shah Kolta ground in Delhi on Saturday.

Pattinson departs after a defiant knock of 30 off 91 balls having hit three boundaries edging a delivery from Ojha.

Nathan Lyon remained unbeaten on eight.

Australia added 31 runs in 14 overs on the second morning with Peter Siddle completing his maiden Test fifty before being bowled by Ashwin who finished with five for 47.

Ojha had one for 75 from 26.1 overs while Jadeja had a return of two for 40 from 29 overs.

Sharma claimed two for 35 while Kumar was wicketless.

Siddle is bowled through the gate as Ashwin gets his fifth wicket.

This is Ashwin's ninth five-wicket haul in 16 Tests as Siddle played inside the line to see his off stump rattled beaten in the air by a slower delivery and the turn as the ball gripped the surface.

Siddle (below) departs form 51 after facing 136 balls and having hit four boundaries.



His ninth partnership with Pattinson was worth 54 runs and 20.5 overs.

Pattinson hits the first boundary of the second morning with a lovely cover drive off Ashwin and another down the leg side to bring up the 50 partnership for ninth wicket with Siddle off 118 balls.

Siddle completes his maiden Test fifty in the first over of the second morning picking up a couple and single off Ashwin.

His battling half century came off 128 balls and contained four boundaries having resumed on 47.

India were frustrated by the tailenders who held firm on a pitch which has been cracking from day one.

It began with a defiant 53-run stand for the eighth wicket between Steven Smith (46) and Peter Siddle who has figured in an unfinished ninth wicket partnership of 42 with James Pattinson.

Siddle is unbeaten on 47 off 125 balls with four boundaries while Pattinson is on 11 off 57 balls with one boundary.

Ravichandran Ashwin has captured four for 40 and Ravindra Jadeja two for 34.
