Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, too made a change by replacing Varun Aaron with Ravindra Jadeja.

India

Shikar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravindran Ashwin, Akshar Patel, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka will be aiming to turn around their fortunes in India when the two sides clash in the second of the five-match ODI series at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The tourists, stepping in to fill the void left by West Indies, looked out of sorts in the first match at Cuttack on Sunday being thrashed by 169 runs.

This defeat has forced at least one change for Sri Lanka with Upul Tharanga expected to make way for dashing opener Kusal Perera.

In 32 years of touring India, no Sri Lankan cricket team has won a bilateral ODI series on Indian soil. Between 1982 and 2009, Sri Lanka have played eight bilateral series, losing seven and sharing one, back in 1997.

Veteran Sri Lanka opener Tillakaratne Dilshan is not too perturbed by the 169-run loss in Cuttack.

“I think we have in the past not done well at the start but have bounced back in the series. We have to forget what happened in the last match and play our brand of cricket. That’s the main target for the team. And as a team we are just focusing on that,” Dilshan told reporters ahead of the second ODI at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, out on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.

Dilshan remains a key figure for Sri Lanka at the top of the order as the 2011 World Cup finalists bid to launch a solid campaign in Australia and Sri Lanka.

The 38-year-old has had a decent 2014 – he averages 36.61 from 14 innings, but Sri Lanka will need much more from him and fellow stalwarts Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara.

Varun Aaron’s injury leaves the Indian management to pick from Dhawal Kulkarni or Stuart Binny, Aaron’s replacement.
