IPL 7 Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Daredevils in Dubai: Duminy fires DD past KKR in thriller

JP Duminy scored a stunning unbeaten half century as he gave Delhi Daredevils their first win in the Indian Premier League 7 on Saturday at the Dubai International Stadium.

Needing 32 from 18 balls, Duminy blasted Mornie Morkel to two sixes and a boundary to completely change the calculations.

With Sunil Narine bowling the penultimate over it was still a tense situation but Duminy fired a six off Chawla in the final over to ensure Delhi reached 167 for six in 19.3 overs. Duminy was unbeaten on 52 from 35 balls with three boundaries and as many sixes.

The foundation for the chase was laid by Mayank Agarwal who scored a quickfire 26 from 14 balls and then taken over by skipper Dinesh Karthik who hit a 35-ball 52.

Earlier, Robin Uthappa scored a superb half century while he shared a 64-run stand with Manish Pandey for the third wicket as Kolkata posted a fine 166 for five in 20 overs.

After losing two quick wickets of Gautam Gambhir and Jacques Kallis; both out for ducks, Kolkata needed a big partnership.

Uthappa was quiet early on when Pandey kept scoring at a quicker pace as he scored 48 from 42 balls including five boundaries.

Once he departed, Uthappa stepped up the gas to hit a fine 55 from 41 deliveries peppered with six boundaries and a six.

Shakib Al Hasan struck an unbeaten 30 while Suryakumar Yadav scored two boundaries in the end to ensure Kolkata had a good total to defend.

DELHI DAREDEVILS INNINGS

That's a massive six from Duminy as he seals the game for Delhi. DD 167-6 in 19.3 overs.

Chawla strikes as Neesham is gone. But before the catch is taken at deep mid-wicket, Duminy manages to cross over so he's on strike. Interesting battle with six required off the last four balls. DD 161-6 in 19.2 overs.

Narine gives the glimmer of hopes for Kolkata. Delhi need six from as many balls as Chawla prepares to bowl. DD 161-5 in 19 overs.

The big over arrives for Delhi as Duminy takes on Morkel to hammer 21 runs, including two sixes and a boundary. They now need 11 from 12 balls. DD 156-5 in 18 overs.

A six from Neesham eases things a bit for Delhi in what was a fine over from Chawla. They need 32 from 18 balls. DD 135-5 in 17 overs.

Delhi looks to be losing the plot as Tiwary departs. Narine took a fine catch at the third man boundary. DD 127-5 in 16 overs.

Narine gets his first victim. Karthik stayed safe for the first two balls but attempted a reverse shot and was trapped. DD 118-4 in 14.3 overs.

A good over for Delhi as Karthik reaches his half century. He also shared a 50-run stand with JP Duminy. DD 117-3 in 14 overs.

Narine has another good over. Both Delhi batsmen are not taking any risk when he is bowling. DD 104-3 in 13 overs.

Another good over except for Duminy's cheeky boundary. Vinay Kumar finishes his four overs giving away 35 runs with no wickets. DD 97-3 in 12 overs.

Narine bowls his first over. It's been quite a simple one with just four runs coming off it. DD 88-3 in 11 overs.

Not a good start for Chawla as he is hammered to a six and a boundary from Karthik. DD 84-3 in 10 overs.

Delhi need another 96 from 66 balls with an asking rate of nearly nine. DD 71-3 in 9 overs

Duminy joins Karthik. The Delhi skipper reaches 28 from 20 balls as Shakib bowls another fine over. DD 66-3 in 8 overs.

Kallis is hit for a boundary and a six from Karthik but he removes Taylor in his last ball of the over. Delhi need 107 from 78 balls. DD 60-3 in 7 overs.

A fine over from Shakib except for the four from Taylor. Delhi is doing well with the run rate at over eight. DD 49-2 in 6 overs.

A good over from Vinay, just four runs off it. DD 43-2 in 5 overs.

Agarwal was looking solid but Morkel gets him as Chawla takes a simple catch at square leg. DD 39-2 in 4 overs.

Runs coming quite comfortably for Delhi including a boundary off a overthrow. DD 31-1 in 3 overs.

It's been a good start for Delhi skipper Karthik scoring a fine boundary. DD 18-1 in 2 overs.

A brilliant piece of fielding from Pandey. His direct hit ensures Vijay departs without troubling the score. DD 10-1 in 0.5 overs.

Two good boundaries from Yadav meant KKR are 166 for 5 in 20 overs.

No much help from Pathan as he plays on a Coulter-Nile delivery. A great last over from the pacer. KKR 157-5 in 19.4 overs.

Uthappa finds Taylor at deep midwicket as he goes for a big one. A good knock comes to an end. Delhi wanted this wicket badly. KKR 132-4 in 17 overs.

Uthappa taking the charge. He has been dealing in boundaries as he gets two in this over of Duminy. He needs just one run to reach his half century. KKR 124-3 in 16 overs.

Uthappa fires a six followed by a boundary as KKR can now eye a challenging total. KKR 112-3 in 15 overs.

The run flow has suddenly picked up with Shakib doing the bulk of the scoring. Uthappa giving him the strike. KKR 99-3 in 14 overs.

Shakib gets to task immediately smashing a big six off Nadeem. Run rate crosses seven. KKR 93-3 in 13 overs.

Uthappa gets his first boundary as Shakib Al Hasan joins him. KKR 82-3 in 12 overs.

Nadeem was smashed for two boundaries but he gets his revenge rattling Pandey's stumps. Pandey was unlucky to miss out his half century by two runs. KKR 75-3 in 11 overs.

The 50-run partnership comes up. But the duo have been tad slow in their approach as the run rate is just over six. KKR 63-2 in 10 overs.

Runs coming in just singles and twos. But a fine partnership brewing here but they need to get some big shots coming. KKR 56-2 in 9 overs.

Uthappa got lucky there. A simple catch put down by Taylor at short midwicket. KKR 50-2 in 8 overs.

Pandey looking good and confident executing his shots. Two cracking boundaries in Neesham's over takes him to 26. KKR 44-2 in 7 overs.

Runs not coming easily for the Kolkata batsmen. Unadkat doing a fantastic job there. KKR 31-2 in 6 overs.

The first boundary for Kolkata comes in the fifth over. It's been a great effort from the bowlers. KKR 27-2 in 5 overs.

Pandey and Uthappa taking their time to build on after the early loss. KKR 18-2 in 4 overs.

Delhi on a roll here. They hatched a plan and Gambhir fell for it. Caught on the leg slip. KKR 11-2 in 1.4 overs.

Delhi suffered a loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening tie but will be keen to put forth a clinical performance against Kolkata.
