DAY 2 PREVIEW

A total of 298 players are likely to go under the hammer in addition to players who went unsold on the first day when the two-day (Indian Premier League) IPL 7 players' auction continues on Thursday in Bangalore.

Each team has to have a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 27 squad members.

KKR and MI have to buy six players, RR have to buy five, KXIP and RR could purchase four more players while DD, CSK and SRH have the option of buying three more players.

Out of a total of 216 players who went under the hammer, 146 were not sold on the first day.

The IPL will send a list of unsold players to the franchises who will have to pick the players they want included in the second day's auction so that there won't be the litany of unsolds.

The biggest winners were Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, England reject Kevin Pietersen, Dinesh Karthik, Mitchell Johnson and Glenn Maxwell.

Some of the stars who live to fight another day are Hales, Dilshan, Guptill, Mahela, Ross Taylor, David Hussey, Kieswetter, Mathews, Mendis, Philander and Lee.

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore owner Vijay Mallya has lodged an official complaint to the IPL Governing Council, saying his franchise coughed up Rs 4 crore more on buying all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on the first day of the players' auction, Times of India reported.

RCB had almost bought Yuvraj for Rs 10 crore when Kolkata Knight Riders joined in the bidding, and eventually the left-handed batsman was sold for Rs 14 crore to the Bangalore outfit.

"The hammer did go down at Rs 10 crore. Normally, my understanding is that when the hammer falls down, that's the final," he said.

"We have written to the IPL Governing Council regarding this. I am hopeful that they (IPL GC) will consider the matter," Mallya told 'Times Now'.

Mallya said he was otherwise satisfied with his team's acquisitions on the first day of the auction.

"I am satisfied with the players we had acquired today. I am happy that we bought Yuvraj," he said.
